Monday Morning Technology Training Sessions for Sept 29-Oct 27

Now that we are all well settled into the school year and by next week the whole homecoming fiasco will be over it is time to start Monday morning technology training sessions. These sessions will be held in the HS Lab and streamed on the website as well as recorded. You will be able to watch them live here on this blog post or from the Online Teacher Technology Training section of our website. Recordings of these sessions will be archived on the Goodhue Technology Training blog.

August Technology Workshops

There will be three days of technology training workshops offered the week before teacher inservice this month. The dates, times, and session topics are listed below. If you did not attend the workshop in July you are eligible for three hours of seat time compensation on any one of these days. The rest of the time will be spent working through the online technology training modules which you will be compensated for based on training module completion.

August 19, 2008:

9:00 am - 10:00 am - Introduction to Online Teacher Technology Training
10:30 am - noon - Sections 2.1 (Search Engines), & 9.2 (Social Bookmarking)
12:30 pm - 2:00 pm - Sections 2.2 (Language Translators), 2.4 (Anatomy of a URL), & 3.1 (Fair Use)

August 20, 2008:

9:00 am - 10:00 am - Introduction to Online Teacher Technology Training
10:30 am - noon - Sections 10.1 (Updating Your Website), 10.2 (HTML tricks), & 10.3 (Embed)
12:30 pm - 2:00 pm - Section 12.1 (Open Source vs. Proprietary Software)

August 21, 2008:

9:00 am - 10:00 am - Introduction to Online Teacher Technology Training
10:30 - noon - Sections 9.1 (Blogs), 9.3 (RSS), & 9.4 (Power of the comment)
12:30-2:00 pm - Sections 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, & 4.4 (Digital Backpack)

I will also be streaming video and audio of these sessions on the main page of the teacher technology training website and monitoring the discussion board in case you want to attend remotely from home.

I plan to hold these sessions in the high school lab but reserve the right to change locations if need be.

Online Teacher Technology Training

This summer we will be piloting a new way of delivering professional development for IT. Instead of synchronous sessions the week before school we are offering you the ability to customize your own learning through online teacher technology training. Hopefully this will solve the following issues:

• Not all training is essential or relevant to all teachers.
• Having training done online you can do it at your own pace and in your own time.
• From these sessions you will hopefully have products you can directly apply to your classroom.
• The new ISTE NETS for teachers include a standard that all teachers will participate in online professional development.

I will be available all summer to assist you with any questions you have and provide feedback along the way. In each training module I have included multiple ways you can contact me.

We will be launching this formally on Wednesday, July 9th at 8:00 am in the Goodhue High School Lab and I will be available that morning as well as three days near the end of August to assist with any technology integration questions you might have.

If you can't attend the session Wednesday in person you can view it here. I will be streaming the session live that morning and recording the session as well. After the session I will embed a video of the session on this blog.

May - June Technology Training Sessions

For May and the first week of June the following technology training sessions will be offered:

• May 8th 7:30-8:00 - Open Office - Next year we will be switching from Microsoft Office to Open Office. Come see how they are similar and how they are different. - CAD Lab

• May 15th 7:30-8:00 - Firefox - Next year we will be switching from Internet Explorer to Firefox. Come see how they are similar and how they are different. CAD Lab

• May 22nd 7:30-8:00 - Online Curriculum Sharing - There are many websites out there where teachers can share lesson plans and curriculum for free. Come explore some of these sites. - CAD Lab

• May 29th 7:30-8:00 - QwestGarden - A tool for creating WebQuests, a research supported teaching strategy for internet use in the curriculum. - CAD Lab

• June 3rd 7:30-8:00 - Backing up data online - Flash drives are great for backing up your data, unless they are stored in the same place as your computer. In the event of a fire or flood they will likely suffer the same problems as your computer and valuable data may be lost. Come see how you can store your backup files online for free. - CAD Lab

• April 24th 7:30-8:00 - Rubistar - Online database of rubrics for nearly every kind of learning activity. - CAD Lab
